Mati is a holiday settlement of Eastern Attica, at the administrative boundaries of the municipality of Nea Makri, at the southernmost point of the Rafina border The name probably took it because of the imposing view of the sea always belonged administratively to the municipality of Nea Makri, regardless of whether it is closer to neighboring Rafina. In the 1960s, a sparsely populated holiday village was inhabited by holiday homes of holidaymakers from Athens. In 1965, the Naval Club of Mati Attica (NAMA) was established to promote sailing and other sports such as water skiing and volleyball. At the same time, with a royal decree (1962), it was decided that the area would be incorporated into a religious parish and the erection of a church of the holy church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The temple was completed (1978) at the metropolitan of Attica Dorotheos and its inauguration took place in 2001 by the metropolitan of Attica Panteleimonas. The church is the headquarters of a parish church belonging to the Holy Metropolis of Kifissia, Amaroussiou and Oropou, in the Nea Makri Archimandrite Region. Since the decade of 2000, the settlement has developed greatly, has become much more densely populated but has never lost its holiday character.
