Keratsini Transfers
Keratsini Keratsini is a large suburb of Piraeus and part of the Athens urban complex. The distance from the center of Athens is about 11 km. Previously, the area was a farmhouse but it was strongly urbanized, mainly after the 1950s. The central square of Evgenia is adorned by the statue of the Asia Minor which was erected in memory of its refugees Asia Minor Disaster settled in the area. Pavlos Fissa Avenue is the commercial district of the city with many shops. The first settlement of the Municipality was built on the slope of the hill of Agios Georgios at a point favoring the possibility of raids and visibility at sea. The foundations next to the church of St. George and the various finds give evidence that the first settlement in the area was built around 3000 BC. The name of the area was Thymedata and was neighboring with the piratical settlement of Heracles, both of them belonging to Ancient Athens. The settlement was located on the current Avenue of Democracy, which connects Piraeus, Keratsini and Perama and the center of Athens. It is speculated that Theseus built his ships there, based on Plutarch's reference to the Life of Parallel. The site was temporarily abandoned when Xerxes settled there.
