Nikaia is a large suburb of Piraeus and is a municipal unity and seat of the Municipality of Nikaia-Ag. Ioannis Renti of Piraeus Regional Unity. It is located approximately 4 km northwest of the center of Piraeus and 8 km west of the center of Athens and it is northeast and northeast with Korydallos, southeast and east with Agios Ioannis Rentis, south with Palaia Kokkinia, west and northwest with Keratsini and southwest with the Tambourines. Nice belongs to those refugee cities that were created after the Asia Minor disaster of 1922 and became the new homeland of the uprooted refugees of Asia Minor. The refugee settlement of Nea Kokkinia, as it was originally called, was founded in 1923 and according to the Greek census of 1928 numbered 33,201 inhabitants [1], being the most populous settlement. In 1934 the municipality of Piraeus was detached and became an independent municipality, and in 1940 it was renamed Nicaea. With 93,086 inhabitants, according to the 2001 Greek census, it is one of the largest population areas of the Athens urban complex. In 2011, the municipality of Nicaea merged with the neighboring municipality of Agios Ioannis Rentis and since then Nicaea is a part and seat of the Greater Kallikrati municipality of Nicaea - Agios Ioannis Rentis. It has been officially recognized as a martyrdom, due to the barbarity suffered by occupation troops during the occupation, to the events known as the Battle of Kokkinia and Kokkinia Bloc, respectively. Historically, it is directly connected to Old Kokkinia, which had been inhabited earlier and their wider area is more simply known as Kokkinia.
