Varkiza is a district of Vari in the region of Attica, formerly called Alliant. It belongs administratively to the municipality of Vari - Voula - Vouliagmeni. It is a seaside settlement of Attica and is located 25 km south of the center of Athens. It is built on the Saronic coast and is a famous tourist resort. The location of the settlement is one of the most expensive areas in Greece. It is about two kilometers south of Vari and 22 kilometers south of Athens. It connects to Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport and Attiki Odos via Varis - Koropi Avenue and connects the center of Athens with Poseidonos Avenue (E 91). Previously the area was covered by wooded pine and olive groves, while Varkiza was a fishing settlement. After the 1960s, the area was developed and later incorporated into the present-day town of Vari. The region became more widely known in 1945 as the site where the Varkiza Agreement was concluded after the war. Varkiza was originally a holiday area in which hotel units were gradually developed and is now a key part of the Athenian Riviera. In the last few decades Varkiza has evolved into one of the most expensive areas of the southern suburbs of Attica for home purchase. The most famous and organized beach of Varkiza with golden sand and shallow water is the beach Varkiza Resort Yabanaki, which includes, among other things, Sports facilities, Parking spaces, Catering facilities, Health facilities, Clubs, Testers, and Water Sports facilities.
