Stoupa is a beautiful seaside village of Messinian Mani, located 45 km east of the city of Kalamata. It administratively belongs to the municipality of Lefktro, which has about 600 permanent residents. In the summer months, the number of residents in the area is increasing considerably. Stoupa is built at the foot of Taygetos, in an olive groves area, behind two sandy coves. With a remarkable tourist infrastructure, it is today the most developed tourist village, not only of the municipality of Lefktro, but also of the entire prefecture of Messinia. Stoupa is a newly built village, which evolved very quickly in a renowned seaside resort. Particularly in the summer months, the region of Stoupa is full of life and liveliness. The first inhabitants of Stoupa came from Lefkro, a small village, located a short distance away. The first name of the village was Potamos, from the river that crossed it. It was then renamed Stoupa. There are two versions of today's name for the village. The first says that the name is due to the Arabic word stoupa, which means beach or bay. According to the second version, the name derives from the towels, that is, the flax plant fibers, which the locals gathered and put them in the sea to soften them so that they can be processed more easily. The diversity of the landscape will enchant you. The imposing Taygetos, traditional Mani architecture, harbors, picturesque churches, caves, traditional villages with magnificent cobbled streets and stunning sandy beaches make up a beautiful scenery that enchants every visitor.
