Parga Parga is a seaside town located in the northwestern part of the prefecture of Preveza of the former province of Margariti. It is built amphitheatrically on the hillside Pezavolos at an altitude of 139 m and up to the Ionian coast. The town is Kanallaki, but Parga is an economic, commercial and tourist center of the area. The municipal community includes the local communities of Agia, Anthousa, Livadari. The municipality of Parga belongs to the prefecture of Preveza, although it is surrounded by the Prefecture of Thesprotia and is located in the southwest of Epirus, near the Acheron River. Parga is about 68 kilometers from Preveza and 40 kilometers from Igoumenitsa and has the picturesque islands of Paxos and Antipaxon. Parga since the 1950s was the seat of the County Court of Justice, the Treasury, the Forestry Office, the Customs Office, the Agricultural School Office with a secondary school and primary schools. It was even famous for its many churches. The city retains its fortification while on its right hand side the medieval castle of Parga with many buildings inside it, which sheltered the southwest side of the city. Previously, Parga was also known for the fine citrus produced in the area, the so-called "Jewish citrus", which was exported to Europe and America.
