Serres Serres is the capital of the homonymous prefecture and the second largest city of Macedonia. It is 587 km from Athens and 89 km from Thessaloniki. The Technological Educational Institution (TEI) of Central Macedonia and the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science (TEFAA of Serres) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki are housed in the city. Serres (in Kathamounusa: ae Serrae) are always mentioned in the plural. When referring to the third person, several of the locals use the formula: "Serras" (of Katharousousa), unlike the use in Municipal (Serres). Example of use: "I am from Serres". There are some who claim that the city's name is not "Serres" but "Serres". Supporter of this view is the publisher of the local magazine "JATI" and author of "Illustrated History of Serres" Vasilis Tzanakaris. Also, according to George Kaftantzis, author of the book "History of the City of Serres". According to Vassilis Forris, the formula "Serres" came from the catholic plural "Serres" during the co-expression of the two sons.
