Megara Transfers
Megara is a city of western Attica. They are located on the northern coasts of the Saronic Gulf, in the middle of the route between Athens and Corinth, are the seat of the Municipality of Megareon and the capital of the Megarian province. The name Megara has been preserved since the ancient times until today and only in the Middle Ages is the Magara type. Written testimonies preserve many different versions of the name of the city. Pausanias, referring to Megareon's view, associates it with the "Megara", the sanctuaries of Demeter, which they built for the first time when King Karone, son of Foronas, was king, in honor of the goddess whose cult was ancient. Herodotus and Stefanos Byzantios attribute the name to the hero Megareas, son of Poseidon. The last interpretation echoed the perceptions of the Boeotians, according to Pausanias, since Megareas, who lived in Ohnestos, came with an army of Boeotians and helped King Nisos Megara in the war against the king of Crete Minos. But he was killed in the battle and was buried in the city, which was named after him. Earlier the city was called Nisaia..
