Petroupoli Transfers

Petroupoli is a municipality of the Western Section of Athens in the Attica region, developing on the outskirts of the Poikilos Oros. The settlement is located south of Attiki Odos, west of Kifissos Avenue and Thivon Avenue and is served by the main streets of March 25, East Romylia and Pericles. It borders southeast with Ilio, east with Kamatero and west with Haidari. Its population in 2011 was estimated at 58,979 people and its area is 6,597 sq. Km, with a density of 8.940 inhabitants per sq. Km.There are two theories about the etymology of the name of Petrograd. According to the first one, the city is named after the stone ("stone town"), as the subsoil is rocky and in the past several quarries (quarries) were operating in the area. The most prevalent theory, however, is that it was named in honor of Peter A. Giannarou, founder of the Athenian newspaper "Esperini". At the beginning of the 1930s, when his son, Alexander Giannaros, took over Vesper's publisher, the newspaper was given vouchers to acquire plots in the area that is today the central and upper Petroupoli.
