Vrilissia is a municipality in the periphery of the Northern District of Athens in the Attica Region. The area is inherently connected with the Penteliko Mountain, while the construction of the traditional settlement dates back to 1930 at the place of Patima for the restoration of the landless refugees of the cultivators, joining the administrative boundaries of the then Halandri Community between Pallini, Athens and Kifissia. The core of the modern settlement is the Holy Temple of Ascension of the Lord in the central square and it is accessible via the railway network from the Metro and Suburban Pentelis and Doukissis Plakentias stations, at the nodes 12 and 13 of Attiki Odos. Vrilissia counts more than 23 consecutive summer festivals and scientific lectures in the framework of the Open University. They are renowned for the clear separation of land uses, excellent urbanism, the high levels of private greenery and the love of their inhabitants for the natural environment. With the implementation of the administrative division of Kallikratis in 2011 no change occurred in the municipality, although the area of the neighboring settlement of Plakentias, together with the fringed zone, is often considered an integral part.
