Spata Transfers
Spata is a city of Attica and was the seat of the former municipality of Spata-Loutsa. They are located in the center of Mesogeia plain (bounded by the mountains of Penteli, Hymettus and Merenta) and on a hill. They are administratively subordinated to the Prefecture of Eastern Attica, while their port is Loutsa. With the Kallikratis Program, Spata was the seat of the new Municipality of Spata - Artemis. The administrative boundary of the municipality extends 20 kilometers east of Athens, from the highlands of Hymettus and Penteli, to the Petalli Bay. It is surrounded by the satellite cities of Peania, Pallini, Pikermi, Rafinus, Artemis and Markopoulou. Within its administrative boundaries, many scattered villages are being developed where local cultural associations are established to contribute to their development and emergence. Some of these are Christopoli, Agia Kyriaki, Velanideza and many more. The modern settlement of Spata is gradually established since the Ottoman domination, while it is recognized as a community of Attica in 1912. In 1952 it is recognized as the Municipality of Spata-Loutsa in Eastern Attica, while in 2011 it merged with the Municipality of Artemis, forming the present municipality. The Municipality of Spata occupies an area of 52,469 acres, the largest part of which is covered by agricultural land and a small part constitutes the traditional center of the settlement. During the 2011 census there were 12,333 inhabitants, or 235 inhabitants per square kilometer.
